Funny Business

Michael,

One of the first things we noticed after coming to Boulder (Jan/2007) was the wealth of non-traditional and funny-named businesses. I’ve been collecting names and photos (and sometimes web pages) for 7 months now. There are a couple of businesses/buildings I’m not sure the purpose of, and I included one that is completely obscure.

I divided the businesses up into 3 categories:
The first category is a bunch of businesses with similar or rhyming names. Click on the thumbnail to see a bigger version. The second is numerical– 1 This, 2 That, etc. Clicking on the thumbnail shows a big slide. The third category is whimsical or outrageous names. Try to guess what the business is from the thumbnail before clicking and getting the answer. You may be surprised!

Well, I did accurately guess the upper right one and the lowest one in the left-most column. But the link for the one about which I was most curious didn’t work — the middle fish. Do tell!

Jennifer–as of 9:10 Mountain Time, I fixed it.

Thanks. btw, the “Mail (will not be published)” I put here isn’t my real email. Is that the one you used, that bounced back?

And I’m disappointed in the actual business of “the middle fish”. I thought it would have something (specific) to do with the gears around the fish. Or are there [don’t read further if you want to guess the business] some unique gear toys there?

I’ll have to go into that shop and ask them what the name means. It’s intriguing.

It seems pretty clear. Not the first fish, or the last fish, but the middle fish. Or, not the left fish or the right fish, but the middle fish. Oh, wait, it could be not the top fish or the bottom fish, but the … well, you get the point. Yeah, I guess you should ask!

The Middle Fish—the explanation…
The owner’s name is Fishman. She was one of three siblings, the middle one, so, naturally, she was the middle fish.

How creative and how funny and aren’t we glad Jennifer raised the question. This could be a full time job for you, rakkity, tracking down the genesis of all the names.

The 12-Eyed Toad — I’ve heard the explanation for that, but it escapes me at the moment. Six Persimmons–IHNI.
Momentum? Dairy? I’ll track them all down. Eventually.
