Diane's Birds
Diane’s labored for three years to entice humming birds to her feeders, and this summer she’s finally been rewarded. The photos are grainy at an iso of 1600. If I don’t shoot fast the feeder looks good, but the bird is a blur. And, like Adam and Tricia’s, the damn thing flits away when they detect human movement.
Well done! The bright background renders the birds a bit dark, but great wing definition, good action. Why, though, do you suppose the feeder manufacturer puts the perches between the “blossom” feeder stations? The birds have to hover while feeding and couldn’t feed if perched … Ours has a continuous rim perch, and the bird(s?) use(s) it, saving energy while hoovering up nectar.

Very impressive. Adam, I think the reason the perches are not at the blossom stations is to force the hummingbirds to hover while they hoover, as they do in more natural circumstances.

And maybe to rest between feedings? As if hummingbirds ever rest.

What is your recipe for the feeder? I’m doing a simple 1 part plain white sugar to 4 parts room temp water. They drink it dry every week.
