Faces

Diane and I killed two hours waiting for Matthew to finish his last exam. We bought stuff at the bookstore, got a decaf from the local Starbucks, downed a sandwich from an on-campus sub shop, and took pictures. Instead of buildings, I decided to photograph students. Most didn’t seem to mind.

There are nav arrows, but clicking on an image will advance to the next.

So, that last guy minded, or was he trying to communicate something else?

That guy was a friend of Matt’s who I corralled and asked to pose for the last photo in the stern sequence. I thought Matt would click through the gallery and then say, “Hey, I know that guy, and I don’t blame him for giving you the finger.” But my cool son acted like it was something his dad got on a daily basis. Just another example of one of my jokes falling flat.

I counted 8 cellphones, 1 tatoo, 1 pink hair, one pants at knees, 1 cigarette, and 1 middle finger. Statistical cross section of youth in America in ’07?

Two cigarettes … Which is fewer than I’d’ve expected, but then so is only one music player (and apparently not an iPod). Some eye contact, but that cannon ain’t subtle … Great series of images.

Great series, Mike! You have the eye of a photo journalist. I think my favorite is 50_2 — the contrast between the woman holding her head (in despair?) and the vacant / calm woman looking into the camera…

Not many smiles, I notice. Exam week…..

I think those kids were all actually headed to exams. The kids lounging on the grass and in the little enclosed grassed and flowered bowers were smiling and laughing. I would guess that they were done.

Thanks for telling all of us, Matt. I was not getting anywhere in my effort to understand why YOU had decided punctuation was necessary.
