Polyleptis Forest

More photos from BirdBrain’s recent trip to Ecuador. Hikes in Yanachocha reserve (1 hour outside of Quito), the enchanted Polyleptis forest, an as yet unidentified volcano, and the Market at Otavalo.

Wow … Lush, exotic, different. These images convey a sense of serenity and solitude (either or both of which could be an artifact, I know). Good eye, and what wonders to cast that eye upon! Thanks!

How similar to where you grew up?

Not very similar — we were at the center of Venezuela, at the river confluence of the mighty and muddy Orinoco (very much like the Mississipi) and goodly Caroní, where the llanos (plains, pronounced YAHnos) were giving way to rolling jungle — the mountains are in the northwest and southern portions, and only the latter resembles this terrain.

Enchanted is the perfect word to describe this forest. Just beautiful.

All the pictures are wonderful, but I particularly love the enchanted polyeptis forest. Can I save that one for my desktop (if you please)?

Rakkity…of course you can save that for your desktop…I like it too. Michael made it look much better than I took it…

At least we don’t have to wonder if rakkity’s still alive.
