Jen’s idea, this potluck at our house, was a good one even though Mark failed to bring enough ribs. Good thing there were plenty of salads and vegetarian dishes from which to choose.
The two group photos below are nearly identical except I like the top pic where many of us are whistling for Karen and John’s dog, Jill, whereas Diane likes the casual look of the second. We had plans for a more festive, party-like image, but put us in a group and we revert to our polite selves.

Millers,
Thanks again for hosting. I really enjoyed putting faces to names.
My highlights from the night:
-Jerry’s amazing wine
-Jill’s quiet disobedience (loved her non-begging style of acquiring treats)
-Diane’s wonderful soup
-Learing about http://www.seekingthesacred.com from Trisha
-Giggling with Pat about dish detergent
-Hearing what really happens on the Maine camping trips and the reading material they choose to bring
I’m hosting the next one. I’d like to make it in mid October.

Thanks for a great party, Diane and Mike. Thank you, Adam, for the photo. What do you think the odds are that (1) the kids will even look at these photos
(2) the kids will know who we are (3) that they will care that we are having fun without them?

You only heard what really happened one year, one trip. We haven’t always sat around reading gay detective novels. Heck no. We’ve been fleeing to Maine together since 1980. That’s twenty-six years ( some of which are chronicled on our website – just drop the mt from the blog url) worth of stories.
When we were as young as you, we faced great risk and overcame all challenges Oh yeah. And I don’t mean like when we realized we hadn’t properly matched meals with our wine, or discovered a punctured air mattress. Not at all. Why once it snowed and another time we had to paddle back to our campsite in the dark.
It’s just that now that it feels death defying to get out of bed in the morning or to bend down to touch our toes, we’re become less interested in physical hardships.

BirdBrain, I’d say that’s Oh for three.

I actually like the thought of them squirming thinking we did nothing but talk about them. Fun to meet all the Actonites. Or is that ActonBoxites.
