Dangling Modifier

I suppose many people will remember my Noland stories. I worked for Noland for three years before he died, at the age of eighty-one, last May 16th. He left his wife and two sons. His youngest son, the one whom he cared the most about, hung himself yesterday. Danny was thirty-eight.

  1. God, Mike. “‘I know that’s life and I know you could take it, but all of your stories end like that. The boom drops. Don’t you have any boring stories?’ He doesn’t. They all finish with someone dead, beat-up, or fired. They’re short and they hit hard.”

Maybe this isn’t quite the right time for my hardest call. Or maybe it is. (Of course, it isn’t short.)

  2. God, Mike, indeed. But not only for the unexpected early-morning gruesomeness — for the even more gruesome titular pun … Smack ‘im for us, Diane!
RIP, Danny, though we knew ye not.

And with “Nolan” gone, why would you know that this occurred?
