Wednesday is Matt\u00c3\u00ads night to cook dinner and he usually barbeques on our dubious gas grill. Tonight he invited Robby to help and they both ate Boca Burgers as they waited for the chicken to cook.
\nEarlier they had to toss out a box of meal moth infested Rice Pilaf.<\/p>\n

At the dinner table:<\/p>\n

Robby. \u00c3\u00acI ate maggots once.\u00c3\u00ae
\nMatt glanced over at Robby, \u00c3\u00acNice.\u00c3\u00ae
\nMe. \u00c3\u00acMost of the world eats bugs.\u00c3\u00ae
\nRobby. \u00c3\u00acWhen I got through eating I wasn\u00c3\u00adt bothered at all. I guess it means I don\u00c3\u00adt mind eating bugs. <\/p>\n

I thought, great dinner conversation.<\/p>\n

Me. \u00c3\u00acWhen are we going to Gilsum next? We can\u00c3\u00adt this weekend and next weekend is Annie\u00c3\u00ads Bat Mitzvah. How about the weekend after that?\u00c3\u00ae<\/p>\n

Matt. \u00c3\u00acSure.\u00c3\u00ae<\/p>\n

We usually leave at 3PM, after his shift at Skip\u00c3\u00ads, but with the sun setting at 6 in those hills….<\/p>\n

Me. \u00c3\u00acYou should call in sick on that Saturday.\u00c3\u00ae<\/p>\n

Diane. \u00c3\u00acHe can\u00c3\u00adt call in sick.\u00c3\u00ae<\/p>\n

Me.\u00c3\u00ad Tell Skip you can\u00c3\u00adt work that weekend.\u00c3\u00ae<\/p>\n

Diane. \u00c3\u00acThat\u00c3\u00ads different, that\u00c3\u00ads not calling in sick.\u00c3\u00ae<\/p>\n

Robby. \u00c3\u00acBut calling in sick is the only way he\u00c3\u00adll be sure of getting the
\nday off.\u00c3\u00ae<\/p>\n

Me. \u00c3\u00acI\u00c3\u00adll bring one of my new lanterns so you can have light at your camp site.\u00c3\u00ae<\/p>\n

Matt. \u00c3\u00acWe\u00c3\u00adll build a big fire; we won\u00c3\u00adt need more light.\u00c3\u00ae<\/p>\n

Me. \u00c3\u00acYour fires are so big the earth doesn\u00c3\u00adt need the sun.\u00c3\u00ae<\/p>\n

Matt, deadpan. \u00c3\u00acGood one, dad.\u00c3\u00ae<\/p>\n

Matthew purees me and all I can do is laugh. The kind of laugh that speaks to how narrow the margins have become. I would have gotten away with that six weeks ago.<\/p>\n

Matt. \u00c3\u00acNo, really, I meant it.\u00c3\u00ae<\/p>\n
