{"id":570,"date":"2005-04-28T06:42:42","date_gmt":"2005-04-28T14:42:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mainecourse.com\/mt\/?p=570"},"modified":"2006-01-21T13:42:57","modified_gmt":"2006-01-21T18:42:57","slug":"black-glass","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mainecourse.com\/mt\/2005\/04\/28\/black-glass\/","title":{"rendered":"Black Glass"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Adam Kibbe<\/p>\n<p>Reflections in\u00e2\u20ac\u00a0night&#8217;s window block my view.<\/p>\n<p>They were there by day, just invisible.<\/p>\n<p>What is outside is still there, just not seen.<\/p>\n<p>Such balance<\/p>\n<p>shapes what is available to us.<\/p>\n<p>And what I see through this window (when I can see)<\/p>\n<p>is not all there is,<\/p>\n<p>but it shapes my perception<\/p>\n<p>as the frame of a camera describes a worldview.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Careers are limiting&#8221; said Michael,<\/p>\n<p>and of course he&#8217;s right &#8212;<\/p>\n<p>in that we will do what we will do<\/p>\n<p>and no more.<\/p>\n<p>But the things we do<\/p>\n<p>expose us to what we come to know.<\/p>\n<p>Were our actions other, we&#8217;d be too.<\/p>\n<p>Is there always more to more?<\/p>\n<p>Are there not paths that<\/p>\n<p>in leading inwards,<\/p>\n<p>expand?<\/p>\n<p>To know something well from one perspective<\/p>\n<p>can be limiting.<\/p>\n<p>But to know that point of view at all<\/p>\n<p>is a gift.<\/p>\n<p>To know knowledge, however thorough, deep and vast, to be finite,<\/p>\n<p>is to come to a field<\/p>\n<p>rich with life.<\/p>\n<p>All the blossoms of that field are beyond one&#8217;s picking.<\/p>\n<p>And to find one&#8217;s limitations,<\/p>\n<p>measured against\u00e2\u20ac\u00a0such multitude,<\/p>\n<p>may be daunting.<\/p>\n<p>May be liberating.<\/p>\n<p>But we are pickers,<\/p>\n<p>and we\u00e2\u20ac\u00a0walk this field.<\/p>\n<p>One is as fair as another.<\/p>\n<p>I am inside this window.<\/p>\n<p>What is outside is outside.<\/p>\n<p>Tomorrow will come,<\/p>\n<p>and tonight&#8217;s separation will  have no relevance,<\/p>\n<p>save for these reflections on a reflection.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Adam Kibbe Reflections in\u00e2\u20ac\u00a0night&#8217;s window block my view.
