A bird&#8217;s<br \/>\nworth of weight<br \/>\nor one bird-weight<br \/>\nof Wordsworth.<\/p>\n<p>Kay Ryan<br \/>\n<br \/>\nSubway Seethe<\/p>\n<p>What could have been the big to-do<br \/>\nthat caused him to push me aside<br \/>\non that platform? Was a woman who knew<br \/>\nthere must be some good even inside<br \/>\nan ass like him on board that train?<br \/>\nCharity? Frances? His last chance<br \/>\nin a ratty string of last chances?  Jane?<br \/>\nSurely in all of us is some good.<br \/>\nBetter love thy neighbor, buddy,<br \/>\nlest she shove <i>back. <\/i>Maybe I should.<br \/>\nIt\u00c3\u00ads probably just a cruddy<br \/>\ndowntown interview leading to<br \/>\nsome cheap-tie, careerist, dull<br \/>\ncul-de-sac he\u00c3\u00ads speeding to.<br \/>\nCan he catch up with his soul?<br \/>\nReally, what was the freaking crisis?<br \/>\nDid he need to know before me<br \/>\nif the lights searching the crowd\u00c3\u00ads eyes<br \/>\nwere those of our train,or maybe<br \/>\nthe train of who he might have been,<br \/>\nthe person his own-heart-numbing,<br \/>\nme-shoving anxiety about being<br \/>\nprevents him from ever becoming?<br \/>\nHow has his thoughtlessness defiled<br \/>\nwho I was before he shoved me?<br \/>\nHow might I be smiling now if he\u00c3\u00add smiled,<br \/>\nhanging back, as though he might have loved me?<\/p>\n<p>J.
