Woke up early this morning and from my bed
\nlooked far across the Strait to see
\na small boat moving through the choppy water,
\na single running light on. Remembered
\nmy friend who used to shout
\nhis dead wife’s name from hilltops
\naround Prerugia. Who set a plate
\nfor her at his simple table long after
\nshe was gone. and opened the windows
\nso she could have fresh air. Such display
\nI found embarrassing. So did his other
\nfriends. I couldn’t see it.
