For Matt
Diane’s Subaru suffered from a rain of bird droppings without quick washings, and I knew the same would happen to Matt’s now seldom-used Lexus. I searched online for car covers and settled on a mid-priced wrap at about $150.00. It’s important that the cover breathes, but keeps water off the car, and resists ice and snow. Or so my research told me. You can buy sloppy fits, custom fits and custom made for your car, and you can buy covers that defend against falling tree branches , but not backing up Nissan Frontiers. You can spend $500.00 on these things.
I clicked send to shopping cart, then buy, but it registered as a duplicate purchase and failed to go through. That was all the momentum stopper I needed. Two weeks later, while wandering about K-Mart, I found a cover on sale for $22.00. That’s seven of the one I was about to buy, and knowing the car only needed protection for about six weeks at a time until summer arrives, I said why not.
Naturally, I washed and waxed the Lexus before sealing it from the weather.

Matt, your car’s been asking for you. Says it misses tailgating slow drivers, and the rush of you looking in the rear view and seeing flashing blue lights three feet off the rear bumper, but mostly it longs for the freedom of the open road. I guess I drive it too slowly.
Last of the Island
A few more Bailey pictures set to Tracy Chapman’s “Give Me One Reason” which way outlasts the photo sequence.
Also, we have Goose’s blog where he complains about a possible nearby dorm fire disturbing his sleep. But, like the pro he is, he takes the time to photograph the on-scene fire engine.
Upside Down World
After poker last night I engaged Goose, Robby and Matthew in a four way video chat. This photo, taken by Matt, was much funnier in real time. No, I didn’t rotate the picture (in answer to adam) , it’s just us playing with software options. The black and white images come from a setting called threshold.
Keep Boulder Weird
Mike,

Bailey Island
Bailey Island is a two and half hour drive from our house. We’d been here years ago when invited by Adam and Tricia, and, quite naturally, jumped at this most recent offer.
With every ocean visit we wonder why we didn’t invest in property twenty-five years ago. Shacks with a view sell for nearly a half million. The simple answer is we can’t afford it now and we couldn’t then.
Diane water walks without her sister, Susan, who would have had a hard time immersed in such chilly water for forty minutes.

Grok Hill as seen by Patrick & Georgia
Michael,
Patrick told us that he and Georgia drove down through NH on their way back from Canada, and stopped in at Grok Hill. They drove up past the Littells, who didn’t appear to be home, and parked at the bottom of Beech Lane. The pictures show the rifugio and the campfire spot that generations of Millers et al have used for boiling/burning/smoking dinners, breakfasts and midnight snacks. They also show the sturdy atrium constructed by el Kib & the blogmeister. The inside shots show no mice, but I didn’t tell Patrick to get a shot of the inside of the stove, where they’ll lurk until some gutsy person throws them out (hopefully in the spring, when the rigors of winter have passed, and they can go find another home).
