Lunch At The Deerhead
Peter keeps asking for photos of his parents.

It turns out that Nubus is really Nubis, which is short for Anubis, the Egyptian God of the Dead. Helen thought her cat looked like he should be on pedestal, similar to many Egyptian Gods, etc. .
The old resistor.
This trip’s truck fix. My heater/air conditioner fan worked only on full blast; the three slower speeds had vanished. My father analyzed the wiring diagram and decided the problem was an inline resistor. I ordered one from the local Nissan dealership, and Voila! heat without the noise.
There are speeds other than full blast for air conditioners?
I think naming a black cat after a God of the Dead is perfect.

Given the rodent remains that litter the perimeter of your house, I knew you would.

I just happened to call Michael while he was at lunch with his parents, and had a delightful conversation with Helen, who at 89 has a better memory that I ever had.
She started out by saying “Dan, I was just talking to Mike about you, and thinking about how beautiful your mother was as a young woman!”
She went on to reminisce about an old friend of hers from when she and Mac lived in Panama (in the early fifties, yes that’s over 50 years ago!), and how their baby boy (Brian) used to play with her friend’s baby girl. She remarked about how beautiful latin women are, and we agreed it has something to do with their smiles, which reflect a warm and generous spirit.
And I even got to talk to Mac — would started out with “I don’t talk to too many people on the phone”, and wanted to know if I was at the same address so he could send me a math puzzle he’d sent me years ago to see if I caould still solve it (not!).
This great photo which Mike posted just hours after those conversations made me feel like I was right there in their midst.
Only I couldn’t smell the salad dressing.

Great add to an already great post, Dan! I was just thinking how great that the three of them were out and about, and also how sharp the two of them look, and then you add this nugget of perspective to the scene … !
And a special tip o’ the hat to Mac for solving Mike’s electrical problem. A minor thing perhaps, but a long way from a given, the gifts greater than fan speeds. The mundane made wonderful …
