April in Paris — Where are the demonstrations?

Mike,

I looked for strikes & demonstations on a walk near the Obs de Paris this afternoon, but within a mile radius, saw only passive Parisians, blooming forsythias and rampant daffodils. Dang. And I brought my camera along to get some interesting shots. Maybe I’ll head over to the Place du Republique this evening.

  1. It seems you may have spoken just a bit too soon. I just walked through the lounge of my house here in Chicago to see MSNBC (who watches MSNBC?) displaying helicopter-pictures of protestors running around some park in the Plaza d’Italy (wherever that is–I’ve never been to Paris). There seemed to be a certain amount of milling about and yelling, a few people throwing things at police, but nothing all that exciting.

  2. Mark & Michelle (stepson & girlfriend) were just in Paris for a day last week — took the Chunnel over from London, where they were vacationing for a week. They hoofed an improbably impressive amount of the City in the allotted amount of a day and saw no signs of unrest either …

  3. I’m here for a workshop of the high energy X-ray team analyzing solar flares, but I’ll report to the blog on anything interesting I happen to see. So far, it’s been lots of great croissants, amazing old architecture, excellent bourgone wine, and learning new stuff about the sun.

This afternoon I’ll send a picture or two.
