Chanting in the Pisa Baptistry

Michael,

On our way to the Piazza dei Miracoli in Pisa, we learned that the Baptistry (adjacent to the Duomo and the Torre) has wonderful echoing acoustics. The echoes are exploited by chanting singers every half hour during the day, so I came to the Baptistry ready to record.  This is a big file (85 MB), so I couldn’t just attach it to my message, you’ll have to download it.

Oh, and there’s a problem — it’s rotated sideways. Can you use your iMovie powers to rotate it upright after downloading it to your site? Even if you can’t do the rotation, it’s nice to have it just to listen to the chanting and the echoes of the singing.

  1. Thanks for doing the rotation, Mike. Now I don’t have to lie down or crane my neck over to watch the movie.

  2. But if you can’t see it, then you don’t get altitude sickness!

Hey, thanks for sharing all this. Although it’d be good if you explained some of the bad stuff too, so I wouldn’t feel quite so jealous.

  3. Well, here’s one of the minor glitches…

There was this Alitalia clerk in London, couldn’t have been over 21, who was doing sudoku puzzles while talking on the phone. We were trying to get boarding passes from him for the Rome flight. After 10 minutes of waiting for his phone messages to come through (don’t most airlines put that stuff on a computer?), he got around to telling us that our credit card had been canceled. This has been a recurring problem for us, since our credit card companies sometimes think our cards have been stolen once we use them in Europe, even if we give them advance notice.

Anyway, we had no seats on our flight to Rome. It took another half hour to get that straightened out. (Meanwhile I worked out his sudoko puzzle upside down.)

Luckily, our flight was late going out, or we’d have missed it.
