eyePhone

Michael,

I don’t think this new toy is a spoof.  The eyePhone may not actually be available yet, but it looks technologically feasible. It’s just what we Beartooth fogies need to identify those mysterious lakes and mountains without fooling around with maps.

I wonder what happens if you point it at yourself? Does it come up with your personal  webpage or blog?

  1. I wouldn’t have thought there was good cell phone reception in the areas you BFs hike. I like the concept … except it potentially gives even more power (to control information) to whoever supplies the descriptions, and think how your information will be used! You’ll get nearby dinner and entertainment reservations made automatically, suggestions to end your hike now to beat the dinner rush, etc.

  2. Yeah, I was thinking that too. My cell phone doesn’t even work 10 miles west of Boulder, and in Utah, it’s the cell dead zone. But these eyePhones are satellite phones, and use a network of satellites like the Iridium constellation which spans the entire globe.
