Warming Up
Mike,
With Katie and Patrick here in Boulder at Thanksgiving, we couldn’t pass up a chance to reprise our 3-way racketball games, especially since Patrick brought 2 rackets in his luggage. So off to the north gym we went, and played 2 3-way games, giving KT a 5 point handicap. (For those who always want numbers, the scores were 15-12-11 and 12-15-11, Rakkity-Patrick-KT). And just for fun we made movies (with sound) of a few volleys. What a blast!

Yeah, you did send me only one of those .movs to be posted but I got so hypnotized by the sound of that ball I decided to splice all four back together again. I like your red shirt but don’t think that’s a substitute for blood. Next film clip (now that you’ve mastered the art) has to have more action.

I told KT & Patrick that I would throw myself to the floor and into a wall for the sake of the film, but they dissuaded me.

I’ve never played. How does one keep score? It seems rather random, therefore I think I’d like it.

In a 2-person game, the server hits the ball off the front wall into the floor area behind court center. If the receiver fails to return the ball to the front wall, the server scores 1 point and continues serving. If the server fails to return the ball, he hands the serve over to his opponent. The returned ball always has to hit the front wall before touching the floor, but it can take some crazy bounces (back wall, side wall, ceiling) before reaching the front wall. The game ends when one person’s score reaches 15. The movie clips only show some relaxed pre-game volleying. The actual game is much more vigorous and even dangerous.
