Random Fate

The past couple of weeks, the Mrs & I have had the worried feeling that things were going too smoothly in our housing transactions. First, improbably enough in this market, our house sold on the very first Open House day. Then with incredible luck, after only a week of searching, we found a great, affordable house in Boulder. And the timing was perfect, too. We could take our earnings from the sale of our Bowie house at closing on Oct 16 and apply it to our Boulder house closing on Nov 1. No mortgage!
But the randomness of fate struck yesterday, when we heard that yesterday, 4 days before closing, our buyer had gone to the hospital for routine surgery and had lapsed into a “coma-like” state afterwards. He can’t even sign a power of attorney for his wife and daughter. The closing is delayed until he wakes up, whenever that may be. A month from now, he could still be in a coma, and we can’t put the house on the market
So, we’re going to have to float a mortgage until this is resolved. I hope we don’t end up trying to sell our Bowie house while living in Boulder!

The Universe sometimes links and juxtaposes one person’s setback against another’s, as if testing the discrimination of our relativism, and our empathy muscles … May this resolve speedily and well for all involved, but, Damn! How awful!

Life is so random it’s beyond comprehension. We’ll keep our fingers crossed that he awakens, still wants your house, and gives his wife the power. This is why we didn’t want you playing racketball so close to your house closing, so nothing would happen. If he was on our blog we could have told him to hold off on surgery until after he moved.

That’s easy; they’re living in the hospital.
That’s just awful. One turn of bad luck can erase a whole month of good luck.

We’re wishing the best for our buyer (Mr. C.) and his wife and daughter. We sure they have a place to stay, but we don’t know anything about them beyond what our agent hears from their agent. The latest we heard, Mr. C. is on a respirator. Maybe we’ll hear more tomorrow. Get well soon, Mr. C.!
As for photos, Michael, you should know better. (Although I did make a wry grin at your dark humor.)

Our buyer died on Monday. Rest in peace, Mr. C. We never met you, but we will certainly miss you.
Our house goes on sale again this coming Sunday.

That’s all awful in so many ways … Good luck with Round 2, Sir Rakk … ! May several healthy parties engage in a bidding war driving your price above asking. Or may at least one healthy one come close …
