Holy Cow! Snow! Right in downtown Acton. Here in balmy Boulder, about an hour ago we strolled up snow-free Pearl St in the light of the setting sun, checking out menus, and wondering where we could sit among the 100s of others in the outdoor restaurants. It’s been sinfully warm here, in the 60’s and 70’s this past week. Except one day, yesterday, when it was cloudy down here in the plains. But I split town and went XC skiing up near Forest Lakes at 9000′, where the sun was shining brightly, and the powder snow was wonderful. The local ski area, Eldora, still has 60 inches of snow, but the crocuses and daffodils are sprouting up everywhere here in town.
Here in South Haven, MN, we are up to our earlobes in the quagmire that is our avenue. The sun is warm enough in the daytime to melt the top stuff, but the frost is still in the ground, so the water has nothing to do but make peanut-butter-like mud. Sadly, this will be the case for some weeks. You ever wonder where the “mudroom” got its name? Let me tell you!
