  1. Lovely. There’s something intimate and conspiratorial about the performances and the presentation — the tight camerawork, the deep, cryptic glances and knowing smiles. No overt tips of the nose, but a sense that the artists are performing for each other more than for us, that we got to voyeuristically witness a therapeutic, confessional rite of sorts.

I also catch a faint hint that Billie was a bit separate in the group, not by virtue of being the vocalist, but by being the lone woman — that she could have been singing to or about any one of the guys, with a “We all know what we’re talkin’ ’bout here, boys” quality … Topnotch clip, Mikey — thanks!

  2. You left out one compliment and that relates to your first criticism of music videos spoken many years ago. “Don’t tell me how to interpret the music” or something to that affect. Now, it’d be a boring world if musicians all stood around and simply played their music, but this one is refreshing for me because they’re doing just that. And the announcer. I love his stumbling as he reads from paper, not prompter, that list of names. I just might have to find a way to insert Billie and her group into my Bucyrus video.

  3. I agree, the host was great. He had a rough kind of grace — no self-importance, but no kiss-ass reverence, either. Just easygoing appreciation. You take him at his word and feel he’s chatting directly with you. Good setup.
