Perhaps “adamantly refuses” could have more accurately been replaced with “waffles pitifully about whether” … It was enough for me this time that I managed the second dip, but Mike’s right — I truly wanted to manage a night immersion. Or at least wanted to want to. Or wanted to be able to say I had. Or was wanting …

Adam always swims during the day, however, he adamantly refuses to follow me into “The icy void.” Someday he will, I guarantee it.
