Fifty
No, we haven’t heard a word from Matthew or Cel.
It’s about midnight and we just returned from her fiftieth birthday celebration. I met them both while working on their condo and they were kind enough to invite us to her party. Here’s the slideshow and the rest of the smaller image.
Is this the Roy Orbison group? I like the lady with the arm up…it’s as if she’s saying “Voila, this is what 50 looks like”.

‘T’ain’t the CT folks, and I don’t recognize a one, myself. I’m guessing at least one’s poker group. Great genre photo, though (posed group avec flashe) — lots of natural smiles and dynamic ease, no redeye, white pants not screaming “flash!” Looks like all were having fun.

Hey,
sorry it has been a while, but there is justso much to do in barcelona and very few internet cafes. This is one of the most amazing cities i have ever been to. And it seems like the amount to do is endless. We went to the beach yesterday, which was very nice. The water is warm and the people are friendly. We have done more walking in the last three days than i have in a long time… and i am definitely having a bit of withdrawl from my car and my cellphone but it’s something i can get over. We went to the picasso museum (is that correct spelling of either word, cause cel doesnt speak english anymore…and i never did) but sorry dad,no photos because they were fairly strict about that. The hostal that we are staying at is pretty nice.. and it is situated away from the touristy area, which is kinda nice because you get more of a feel for what is actually barcelona. We tried to go to madrid today, but there were no trains that we could get onto, and the one we could was way too expensive so we are leaving tomorrow. We are paying 63 euros for round trip… which i still think is expensive but definitly not as bad as if we had left today. We leave at 11 tomorrow night, so that should be an interesting train ride…and we get in at something like 8. The food here is wonderful, and we have gone to this street called las ramblas a few times,it is the center of the tourist area, and has many street proformers and … many drunks. It is interesting to see the response that cel gets here from the guys, compared to the one which hil recieved in nicaragua… cel’s getting off easy.
Anyway, much love to everyone at home.
Have a wonderful day
Ill write again soon
Matt
Ps. mom, i have taken money out out the ATM twice, because it is the easist way to get cash…i have also done a few travelers checks and a tiny bit of cash. Anyway, much love

Didn’t I tell you not to worry, Diane? If he weren’t having the time of his life, he’d work a lot harder at finding those “very few” internet cafes. Imagine being seventeen, freshly free of another grueling school year, and traveling in a friendly foreign country with an amigo cercano. Add to all that an unlimited bank account and I’m sure he’s already trying to rebook his return home for the spring of 2006.

“It’s una amiga cercana”, and why pray tell is his bank account unlimited, you-who-are-his-educators-in-life’s-practical-limits? Where’s the ingenuity of Europe on $60 a day? Spoiled rotten — can you tell I’m jealous?

Okay, the sentence where Mike explains that the unfamiliar couple are client new acquaintances eluded me the first time — maybe Mike edited the entry after me and curious failed to notice? Or am I just oblivious … ?

Curious is apparently oblivious. Still don’t know who the people are. Glad Matt and Cel are safe and having a ball and that Cel is not being hit on too harshly.

I just noticed the slide show. What did you do to the baby Michael to make it cry? Very attractive people in their Spring finery.

I can’t tell you much more than I already have. Those folks are are someone else’s friends. Although, my work buddy, Chris, knows the blonde dancer quite well. He even gave her a nickname – Lightning Lady.
Matthew taught us a long time ago that money easily accessed and with no strings attached is the best way to say I love you. It seems to be true.

Way to go Matt! It sounds like you are having an awesome time. Are you going on the AVE (high speed train)? I went on one from Madrid to Seville; they’re really cool. I hope that the reference to no pictures is only for the Picasso Museum, not the whole trip.
When you are in Madrid, make sure you get to the Estanque (pond with rowboats) at the Retiro (large park in the middle of the city; hard to miss). And of course, La Puerta del Sol (the center of the city and the whole country) and the Plaza Mayor (center of the old city).
Adam, you beat me to correcting Michael’s concordancia. One would think that between you, me, Matt and Dan he would have learned by now…
