Expiration Date

It’s six degrees outside, the snow crunches underfoot, and the drafts in our house force us to huddle around the wood stove. Perhaps that’s why I’ve been thumbing through photos of our trip to see Peter in Hawaii three years ago. Diane and Peter “relax” in the lobby of the hotel before we leave for the airport.

  1. Peter’s apparent vacuousness wouldn’t be as notable were it not for Diane’s apparent consternation. Nice ones!

I saw 1 degree as I went to bed about 11:00.

  2. My question is, how could he have drifted off for so long? And where did he go?

Chris tells me Sudbury is in an entirely different climate zone, and that they have snow plows that actually clean the streets. Or maybe it didn’t snow there at all?

  3. Sometimes it’s like a turnstyle door in the department stores: you just go in and get a new set of “clothes” and out you come again. Only this time I came back looking instantly just like my old self. Only the camera caught the moment, and Mike’s wicked eye.

Diane? Well, I was toggling the switches on her brain pan while I was gone, thinking that, in the meantime, she could be my medium.

“Diane, that voice in your head IS my voice.” But all she could think is, “I need another Mai Tai.”

That’s the problem with too much mental health.

In paradise, the beach snow gets plowed every night.

    mediumly rare,

    pohaku
