Lake House

Behind the green is the house that Jimmy and Susan built. Named Torroemore by Susan, this is Matt, and now his Dad’s favorite vacation house. Photo taken August of ’03

Photo taken this morning. A clear view of the bunkhouse, with bass boat, Wex (the poodle), and the manse on the hill. The deck is a relaxing place to write new blog entries…in the summer.

  2. It occurs to me to ask the august Earleigh what it must be like to live in what another calls the their favorite vacation house. Most of us get but a week or so in such places, but to call it home….. And where might the Earleigh’s favorite vacation house be?

  3. To answer way’s questions:
Both the Earl and the Earleigh love living at Torroemore and wonder why we did not build this house and move to this place much sooner than we did. As you can see from the pictures, the view others have of us varies from “a hint of something up there” to “full frontal.”

Our views of the world also change dramatically as the seasons move along. In summer, we live in a tree house, enveloped by great, tall, lush old maples and oaks that allow only a glimpse of the lake and keep Torroemore’s inside cool and shadowed. In winter, we can see forever, looking out over a magical white crystal kingdom from a warm and very bright interior. In between, we see spring creep in on ever greener feet and fall arrive in a blaze of gold. It all is truly splendid!

There are birds of all feathers that come and go and some that stay with us all year. There are deer and bunnies and owls that share the property with us. (Also squirrels and racoons.) Most summers we watch our pair of loons raise their babies.

But the best part of Torroemore? — the people we care most about in the world like to visit us here.

The Earleigh has several favorite vacation houses, all in Ireland, the most favorite being Hilton Park in County Monaghan.

  4. Although not asked, I would add that the glorious peace and quiet at Torroemore is in sharp contrast to the noise pollution of the city.

  5. I well understand the Earl’s appreciation of the enviable peace and quiet, and the Earleigh’s expansive rhapsody speaks volumes more than the volumes proffered of the Eden that is Torroemore. Thanks for the generously expansive verbal window into your idyll!!!
