It’s 4:30 AM, Matt and Diane are fast asleep, my truck is packed and I’m about to jump in and drive to Indiana (Peter Finlay refers to all those interior states as “Somewhere in the middle.”) to visit my parents. A planned trip that follows my sister’s visit where she was able to provide comfort to my mother who is a bit under the weather. Anyway, I figure the blog needs all the commenters it can get, and her absence the last two and a half weeks has been glaring. I hope I can help move her back in front of her iMac; she’ll love la Chica’s baby pictures.
**************************
I have Diane’s permission to have, for the purposes of a non-boring blog entry, a clinical, no strings attached, one night stand with a middle aged, marriage-on-the -rocks, bleached blond named Brenda. I’m pretty sure I’ll meet her tonight in the Motel Six bar just outside of Dayton and she’ll be from Brownsville. That’s usually the way these things work. In Diane’s exact words, “If even Chris is no longer sending witty and poignant stories, well heck, Mike, you gotta do what you gotta do.”
Godspeed, valiant Michael, and our best to your mother. We who've never met her miss her presence on the blog and wish her well, quite beyond our selfish attachment to her presence.
And lotsa rest stops and No-doz, Mikey, my man -- you're not 23 anymore........
But lest you think your wife too broadly permissive, heed rigorously the fine points -- "middle-aged bleached-blonde Brenda" does not extend to "thirty-something, brunette-biker-chick Rose", nor to "Natural-blonde free-spirit indeterminate Jonie", or any others who deviate from the plausible but specific conditions of your "research". And we all know you need but glean nuggets of conversation to post, a sweaty tryst being quite beyond the exigiencies of the blog's doldrums. So before you decide the awkward "your room or mine" bit, ponder her own needs and probable response to your unprecedented, "Can we just cuddle and talk?"
Posted by stickler.Chris, me Chris? I've been keeping my wit and wisdom to the comments and throwing my daughters art work in there. I do what I can but if countering my non-productivity means bleach blond Brenda for you, one has to ask, what's in if for the Wife?
HO get better, we miss you. And Safe Journey to Michael.
Posted by chris. So, I'm very curious as to whether the idea of a parent having extra-marital sex is easier for a teen to handle than the idea of sex between two parents. Matt? Comments? ...
(Didn't think so.)
Posted by curious.A more accurate quote: "...well Mike, do what you have to do before I kill you."
(You'll note I felt compelled to change the tone of voice attributed to the Wife, too, finding it more likely the voice of bleached Brownsville Brenda.)
In the interest of enhancing marital harmony in the Pueblo de Acton, Plaza Central numero 136 (presuming the permission of the maestroblogger) I hope to be posting a few kilowords about the Iberian excursion of papacita & mamacita Rakkity, with much ado about the español travel exploits of niña KT,
Santa Semana, and the Flamenco hotspots of Sevilla.
Soon coming to a blog in your neighborhood.

Posted by joe.I drove right on through, so after eleven hundred miles and seventeen hours, here I happily sit in Evansville (at Jeff and Karen') laughing at all the blog comments. For some out of body reason, the drive was effortless. I guess Brenda will have to wait for my return trip.
Posted by michael. All these clever people on this blog are making me well, please don't stop. Very clever indeed!
