Canning Family (Early Years)

What a great collection of shots in the linked gallery! The lead one's good, too, though Frank seems to be honoring a separate photographer.

It seems an inanity to say, but viewing scratchy old black & whites like these (especially Susan on the running board of the 1940 Ford) makes me wonder if at the time the subjects had any sense of the antiquity they would later embody. I'm sure they felt as modern then as we do now, but the medium seems to create, not just record, that antiquity.

What the hairy heck were Susan and Diane doing reading Orwell's Animal Farm at those tender young ages? I'd say Diane's expression there about sums it up.

I love these pictures! Especially Diane's prom picture. How adorable is that little flip! Quite an attractive bunch and nice to see Patti included. We third children are always happy to be included.
